This is my third purchase over the years and I continue to return to TecTecTec. I have found their range finders to be reasonable priced and very efficient on the golf course. I am especially impressed with the KLYR. Love the magnetic feature, size, and quick response to the pin.

Very good product. Used this weekend for the first time. The group was impressed with the product and a couple of them were going to buy one.

  11. Lives2read

Tested with other golfers against markers on course and found this rangefinder very accurate. Easy to use. Very clear optics. Slightly smaller size that fits hand well. Compares favorably with higher-end name-brand rangefinders. I especially like the vibration when it locks in.

  12. Nottus81

This rangefinder has so many nice features and is highly accurate! I love how compact it is and the magnetic feature is convenient as well. It is very accurate based on my experience and the slope feature works well too. Highly Recommend!!

  13. Tickles

Bought this one on sale (100). Solid build, good fits. Quick read and accuracy is good enough. It’s pretty good value. Built in side magnet is handy. Glass lets in enough light. No stabilization… bummer.

  14. edwin foo

Initially wasn’t exactly sure about Tec Tec Tec, but, this KLYR superseded my expectations.
Easy to use, lightweight and it’s compact size design fits nicely. It also measures distance just as accurate as other established rangefinder brand.

  15. Kate K.

It is a small and lightweight range finder.
I attach it to the belt clip with its built-in magnet. It takes fast and precise measurements.
Measuring the target clearly and accurately.
It’s a nice feature that it blocks the vibration by locking the target. It has a water resistant case, but the plastic parts do not look very high quality.

  16. Rob A.

I was really excited to use the rangefinder, but one minor drop(weak magnet) and it was off by 50 yards… I tried to restart by taking the battery out, but no luck… Ordered replacement, but we will see how it works.

  17. Joseph Reynolds

Of all the rangefinders that I’ve had the privilege of testing out, this is my favorite one. I think what I love most is the shape, size and material. Its very small and feels good in my hand and against my eye.
    Very easy to use!
It came with a magnet mount.
The only criticism I have to offer is regarding the external battery. I’d rather it come with a charging cable than a battery but this is just nit-picking.
I would recommend this over even the more expensive brands that I’ve tested and I’d recommend spending the 200 bucks if you are shopping for something cheaper.

CHANGING MY REVIEW BASED ON DIRECT SUPPORT FROM TECTECTEC!

As I still stand by my remarks regarding the outer shell and my concerns of durability. However, TecTecTec immediately reached out to me to address my concerns then requested that I return this product if I’m not fully satisfied. If there was a company rating, I would have no reservations in rating them with 5 stars!

Due to the professional manner that TecTecTec Customer Support, Billy, I will be raising my rating to 4 stars. I did return this product but opted to upgrade my range finder with TecTecTec ULT-S Pro. I have zero concerns in purchasing or recommending products from TecTecTec!

Thank you TecTecTec for listening to your customers and being proactive in addressing remedies to keeping us loyal consumers.

    What I previously wrote (revised):

I had a previous TecTecTec rangefinder that was very well built and operated flawlessly. But I misplaced and needed to order a new rangefinder. Inside the rangefinder is excellent but the plastics, including the focus ring mechanism, are its weakest features.

The unit is extremely light weight and small. There is no protection of the plastic casing should you accidentally drop this. The magnetic feature is nice and fairly strong but can be knocked off the magnetic mount with enough accidental force.

Clearly TecTecTec is reasonably priced product compared to others. I do not recommend the KLYR unit despite its excellent rangefinder optics unless low cost is important to you.

  19. TCM62

Great range finder that works quickly and accurately. Love the magnet too. My only concern is durability as it is not at all overly sturdy or solid – feels a little too much like lightweight plastic. Not sure it will hold up over repeated use.

  20. Marc perry

I’ve used it for about 8 rounds. The feedback on pin lock is great. Small enough to fit in your pocket. Solid feel compared to cheaper models. Had a small issue that customer service made right immediately.

  21. Hoppaguy

    The Good:
    -Attaches to your belt clip
    -Compact
    -Accurate
    -Easy to use
    -Looks great
    -Takes CR2 battery

    The Bad:
    -None

    The Bottom Line:
I play a lot of golf and this TecTecTec rangefinder is now my favorite one. It actually has a clip that you can put on your belt and then the rangefinder can stick to that. If you want you can always just put it on your golf cart. This will save me from losing this rangefinder. The rangefinder itself is accurate and compact. Overall, I would recommend this rangefinder for its belt clip and ease of use.

  22. Spikeypup

Easy to use and magnetic holder is a nice bonus.

  23. daved

    Great range finder for golf.

  24. choirlady

I have been using this product for about a month now, and played probably 108 holes of golf (six rounds) using it. It does have a lot of features. I like the look and feel of the range finder. It is easy to operate and easy to read.

I had originally written that while this product was easy to use with a lot of features, I found it to be off by about ten yards when playing with other golfers who also had range finders ( different brands). After posting the review, TecTecTec CS contacted me to try to problem solve. After working with them and actually testing the range finder with my 100′ tape measure and marking off 300′ or 100 yards, I found my TecTecTec range finder was accurate within 1-2 yards plus or minus, and was very consistent. I particularly like the “target search” functionality.

  25. tracie

My husband received 2 Rangefinders for Christmas this being the second one. Had to return. He did say it was a good brand.

  26. Henry O.

Compact size. Fast delivery. Easy to use. Good magnet. If only the RF has a built-in belt attachment.

  27. EDsZebrasReview

Husband plans to use it as night security guard for hemp farms larger than eye can see. He was pretty excited about it and said the quality is right on point and highly recommends for he golf course or security

  28. Ian – Georgia

The whole process when you receive this purchase is an absolute pleasure. As other reviews have written, the packaging presentation is excellent and fun! Inside the box is the cool stuff . The Rangefinder itself, and all the trimmings. I particularly like the belt clip. I won’t use it often, in fact, I’ll only use it if it’s cart path only. Sometimes its hard to know the exact yardage from the cart path now you can take it with you and attach it to your hip instead of chucking it on the floor and potentially forgetting it.
I bought this as I wanted quality optics. The view finder in very bright and easy to use. The owners of TTT are optics engineers! I’m middle aged and ,yes, the eyesight in starting to misbehave . Brightness was a key factor for me. Accuracy is also paramount and the KLYR doesn’t disappoint. I have not felt like I got a bad read in any of my rounds. In fact the use of the slope function has helped improve my game by maybe a stroke or two per round.
Not much difference between the KLYR and the top end models. The only thing this model doesn’t have is Stabilization but most don’t need that and I didn’t see any issues with shaky hands. The thing is quick and dare I say it, FUN to use. It has a great price point and I don’t see the point in spending more unless you really need stabilization. The other reviews are on point, my model is more than I expected and is FANTASTIC VALUE!

  29. RBKalco

Nice looking scope with nice quality black carrying case, and includes a magnetic belt attachment and a carabiner clip. This one is so tiny, it’s cute. Well, from my perspective. The hubby just rolled his eyes at me for calling it cute. Lol. Just as easy to use as our old ones. The design is fairly ergonomic. Very accurate and tournament legal. Fits easily and comfortable in the pocket, if you don’t want it on your waist with the clip or magnetic attachment. The view is rather steady and viewfinder is very clear. Nothing for me to really complain about. It’s a nice overall quality and value. Plus it’s cute. 😉

  30. G. Reeee

This rangefinder is light, compact, easy to use and gives the player what they need. Slope adjustment, lock on pin feature, yards/meters, good battery life, magnetic clips, markers and case. The ergonomic size and weight make it easy to carry anywhere (i use it at tournaments following pros). The customer service is superb. Highly recommended.

  31. Thomas Reed

The TecTecTec rangefinder was ordered for use during the times I play golf.

This unit is not one of those overly large & bulky rangefinders. When I first opened the box, I was amazed at its compact size. This unit is powered by a battery and cannot be recharged through the use of a USB connection. However, that is just a point of fact and not a negative. I do wish it was rechargeable, but that is preference and not a criticism.

The unit comes with a belt clip and magnet. Frankly, I don’t usually carry a rangefinder on my belt or use the magnet that comes with some of them. I leave the unit in my golf cart or attached to my bag. The magnet does appear to be strong and should not release the rangefinder. Thus, if you are disposed to carry it on your person, then this should work nicely.

So, the real question is,,…how did it work on the golf course? A couple of days after receipt, 4 of us went to a golf course, and I tested the unit against 2 name-brand rangefinders that cost more than double this unit. The rangefinder was tested throughout the 18 holes, against the other 2 units, and at varied distances. Invariably, the units were exactly the same or within 1 yard of each other. That’s about as good as it gets. If you need to know whether the 1 yard will make a difference in your game, then you are better than this golfer. If there was a variance of 5 – 10 yards, then yes,…for me that would make a difference, but not 1 yard.

The optics were great and the clarity was superb. I could not have asked for a better view of the pin or other object. I only had a couple of times when the rangefinder picked up an object behind my target object. There was heavy foliage about 20 yards behind the pin location, and it picked up the foliage. However, that is not uncommon any rangefinder. And, I always do a 2nd read, just in case.

The rangefinder locked onto the target immediately and alerted me with the quick “buzz” of the lock feature. I’ve had other rangefinders that had as much as a 2 second delay before locking in on the target, and that is annoying. This unit is super quick.

The slope feature works nicely on this rangefinder. The other side of this feature, is that I do not rely on the slope yardage as specified. I don’t trust them implicitly. They are great as a guide, but I’ve found that most slope yardages on any unit are off when the angle of attack (uphill or downhill) is substantial. That being said, the unit shows the slope yardage separately and the true yardage is noted on the viewer as “actual”. That is a feature that I definitely like. I’ve seen other units that don’t tell you which is which. If one thinks that they have a level angle of attack, and the unit shows a variance, then one is left to guess if the slope is correct or not. The slope can be turned on and off by moving the slide on the side of the unit.

BOTTOM LINE: I like this TecTecTec rangefinder. When tested against other units, it came up with the same actual yardages, and locked in on the target immediately. It is compact, lightweight, and easy to use. I would definitely order a TecTecTec product again.

  32. Don Casey

    Easy to use

  33. JH

Big brand quality without the price tag. This range finder is compact with excellent optics and quick accurate readings. It is lightweight, but made with premium components.

I love everything from the packaging, to the design, to the performance, to the included accessories (belt clip, case, magnet, ball marker). All high quality and functional.

It takes a CR2 3V battery, the battery compartment is located under where you would place your eye. You just pop up a little tab and twist it off to replace the battery. So far battery life has not been an issue, but this is not a battery you would typically have lying around, so make sure you have a back up.

Everything about this rangefinder is about the optics, crisp & clear, the long range, the performance and quick accuracy. It is a fantastic, well-built product all around.

  34. Belle

Th TecTecTec KLYR Golf Rangefinder is a great buy. It is easy to use and the slope adjustment can be easily turned off (and verified off) for tournament use. The built in magnet with metal belt clip makes it very easy to attach to a belt when the course is “cart path only” so having it on your cart post doesn’t help.

I had a tec tec tec a few years ago. I don’t know the model number but I had trouble sighting the flagstick and would get bad readings. I’m not shaky so I attributed it to the tec tec tec requiring a more accurate sighting. I would use my friends rangefinders and didn’t have a problem getting accurate reads. I couldn’t trust the reads I saw. It was inexpensive but too hard to use. Is that just me, or my rangefinder, and have you improved on this issue if so? Thanks, Nat Cannady

How does the pin lock function work? There seems to be no information available online. Is it required to lock onto a feature behind the pin first?

Guest

I have been trying the Klyr out and notice that in M1-Normal mode the device vibrates when locking onto any target (not the pin) Is this normal? I understood that vibrate is only in pin mode (M2)

Support
Isabella
2 years 1 month ago

Hello there,

The KLYR model uses three modes; you may need to try them all to see what works best. Golfers tell us that they prefer Normal Mode for targets inside 150 yards and scan or pin mode for those that are further away.

M1 – Normal Mode
Normal Mode will allow you to find the exact distance quickly. It is best suited for targets within 250 yards. Click the power button once briefly while aiming at a target.

M1 – Scan Mode
Scan Mode is used when you want to determine multiple distances. Hold the power button down while scanning an area by moving the unit from left to right several times to see continuous distance measurement.

**If you press the power button quickly, you are using it in Normal Mode, if you press and hold the power button, you are using it in Scan Mode**

M2 – Pin Mode + Vibration Alert (find the closest vertical object)
Press the mode button until you see the M2. You should see a flag in the upper left corner. Aim beyond the target and press and hold the power button as you pan either left or right over the target. Please note that the rangefinder will “lock” the closest distance even if it is not your intended target, so it is important not to pan too far. When you continue holding the power button, it will vibrate on the pin and will confirm that it is locked on making sure it is locked into the target.

M3 – Slope Mode + Pin Mode + Vibration Alert (Slide the switch on the side (with the logo) to activate the Slope function)
This mode is used with a great deal of elevation change. Almost the same as M2 but with slope calculation.

Hi Jim,

Support
Billy

Hi there,

The VPRO500S is slope enabled however it doesn’t have the magnet and visible slope switch which makes it legal to be used in any tournament.

The KLYR (clear) Rangefinder has clearer display than the VPRO500S as it is powered by our advanced optics technology.
